HIMSS Analytics recognises the first three hospitals in P.R.China to achieve Stage 6
As of Q4 2011, just 5.2% of more than 5,300 of hospitals tracked by HIMSS Analytics had reached Stage 6 on its Electronic Medical Record Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM)
CHANGSHA (May 23, 2012) - HIMSS Analytics announced that Chang An Hospital, Xi'an and Shengjing Hospital, Shenyang and Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, Shandong have achieved Stage 6 on EMRAM. Chang An Hospital is renowned for its aim to be a leading international hospital with a focus on cancer treatment. Shengjing Hospital is well known in the Northeast of China for its excellent medical technology and disciplines. Built in 1890, Yuhuangding, the largest integrated healthcare center in Yantai, is well regarded for its advanced facilities.
HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption ModelSM in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Database. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0-7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents an advanced electronic patient record environment.
"Chang An Hospital, Shengjing Hospital and Yuhuangding Hospital have proven to be the world leaders in deploying healthcare information technology for the betterment of patient care. We congratulate them for their Stage 6 achievements," said Steven Yeo, General Manager, HIMSS Analytics Asia.
Chang An Hospital, Shengjing Hospital and Yuhuangding Hospital have successfully met the criteria to be one the few hospitals in the world that have successfully deployed this level of healthcare information technology for the betterment of patient care quality and safety. The hospitals have deployed advanced safety features such as computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and on-line physician documentation, both supported by clinical decision support to offer best practice, evidence based clinical guidance to the physicians.
Nursing care is aided by on-line comprehensive nursing documentation supported by the safety of closed loop medication administration (CLMA) where each unit dose medication is verified by a bar code scan before delivery to the patient to ensure accurate medication delivery are achieved. Closed loop medication administration for each unit dose provides a whole new level of patient safety in medication delivery.
"Fundamentally, EMR has been constructed, protected, maintained and used by medical personnel, patients, and medical facilities in a cooperative manner," says Mr. Jingming Wang, President of the Chang An Hospital. "Stakeholders of the EMR system should harness the ease of data transmission and sharing through an internet platform to fulfill total health management of residents throughout their lifetime as well as fulfill regional healthcare collaborations."
"Using the latest information technology to integrate human resource management and aligning it with electronic medical records, the hospital has achieved closed loop medication administration through implementing a complete medical workflow solution with a self-reinforcing feedback loop. This allows us to continually improve medical safety and our medical services levels," said Professor Guo Qi Yong, President of Shengjing Hospital.
"The inauguration of Yuhuangding Hospital as a Stage 6 hospital truly signified the realization of our vision of "seeking knowledge, benevolence and excellence" and striving to set the hospital as one of the leading facilities in China. We have studied and learnt from our peers, and will continue to improve ourselves to a level that we aspire to be. Hospital HIT development is a long-term project and we have to strive hard and unrelentingly without fail," said Liu Yunxiang, President of Yuhuangding Hospital.
The Stage 6 Award presentation will be held at the CHIMA/HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Workshop in Changsha on 26 May, 2012.
